Maersk Line Limited awarded MSC charter for M/V Carter

Military Sealift Command has awarded a follow-on time charter to Maersk Line Limited for the M/V SSG Edward A. Carter Jr. to support the U.S. Army's prepositioning program. The M/V Carter, operated by Maersk Line Limited and manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers, currently serves in this mission for the Army and will continue to do so under the new charter.

"We're very pleased the AMO officers working aboard the Carter will continue their excellent and reliable service in this important prepositioning mission," said AMO National Executive Vice President Bob Kiefer. "The outcome of the highly-competitive government RFP process is impossible to predict we're excited to see the M/V Carter remain in operation under the new time charter."

Work under the follow-on charter is expected to commence in April 2011. In addition to a base period of 5 1-2 months, the contract includes four one-year options and one additional five-month option. If all options are exercised, the new contract will extend for approximately five years.
