U.S. Coast Guard to terminate LORAN-C signals Feb. 8 with some exceptions

The U.S. Coast Guard will terminate the transmission of U.S. LORAN-C signals Feb. 8, 2010. At that time, the U.S. LORAN-C signal will be unusable and permanently discontinued. The discontinuation does not affect U.S. participation in the Russian American or Canadian LORAN-C chains. In accordance with international agreements, exceptions to the termination of the U.S. LORAN-C signals will include: Caribou, Maine; George, Wash.; Nantucket, Mass.; Shoal Cove, Alaska; and Attu, Alaska.
