More than 70 vessels operated under contract with American Maritime Officers were among those recognized in 2022 by the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) with Certificates of Environmental Achievement for attaining at least two years of environmental excellence in operations, with 20 vessels achieving 10 years or more without an incident. The awards were presented November 2 in Washington, D.C. at an in-person dinner for the first time in three years. CSA awarded Certificates of Environmental Achievement to a total of 39 companies representing 1,085 vessels, both domestic and foreign, which achieved a total of 9,967 years of operation without incident. President of CSA Kathy Metcalf said: "These awards celebrate the dedication to environmental excellence of our seafarers and the company personnel ashore who operate their vessels to the highest standards. In today's world, it seems our industry only gets front-page coverage when problems arise. However, tonight we celebrate these positive achievements and the critical contributions the maritime industry makes to the domestic and global economies while operating their vessels in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. It should be clear to the American public that we in the maritime industry take our environmental stewardship very seriously. Safe and environmentally responsible operations is a culture fully embraced by the maritime industry as a whole and as evidenced by the performances of the award recipients recognized tonight." The Maritime Administrator, RADM Ann Phillips (USN Retired), and U.S. Coast Guard Deputy Commandant for Operations, Policy and Capabilities RADM Mike Ryan participated in the award ceremony. RADM Phillips, RADM Ryan and U.S. State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Affairs Rick Yoneoka addressed the attendees and congratulated the award recipients and the industry as a whole for their extraordinary performance. AMO-contracted companies operating vessels recognized for environmental excellence included Crowley Government Services; Intrepid Ship Management (Crowley); Keystone Shipping Company (Key Lakes); Maersk Line, Limited; OSG Ship Management, Inc.; Pasha Hawaii; Seabulk Tankers, Inc.; Seabulk Towing; Shell Ship Management; and TOTE Services. |
