Congressman Green leads dedication of M/V Ocean Charger

In late August, Congressman Gene Green (D-TX) led a dedication ceremony for the newest addition to the U.S.-flag commercial fleet, the Ocean Charger, at Industrial Terminals in Houston, Texas.

The Ocean Charger in August joined sister ships Ocean Atlas and Ocean Titan. All three heavy-lift vessels are operated by Pacific-Gulf Marine for Intermarine Inc. and are manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers.

Rep. Green addressed an audience of dockworkers, crew members and shipping industry representatives, praising the work of American industry and government leading to the creation of more jobs for U.S. merchant mariners. U.S. manufacturing gets a boost, he said, from financing backed by the U.S. Export/Import Bank, enabling U.S. companies to compete for construction projects around the world. These projects in turn create more demand for U.S.-flagged cargo vessels to carry the materials and equipment needed.
