AMO maintains jobs in Bob Hope Class, gains jobs aboard four ships in LMSR contract awards

Military Sealift Command this week announced the award of the operating contract for seven Bob Hope Class LMSRs to U.S. Marine Management, Inc. American Maritime Officers will continue to represent all licensed officers aboard the ships, for which the incumbent operator is General Dynamics American Overseas Marine.

MSC also announced the award of the operating contract for four converted LMSRs to Ocean Ships, Inc. The incumbent operator of the four ships is Patriot Contract Services, which employs engineering officers represented by the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association and deck officers represented by Masters, Mates and Pilots.

The contract for the Bob Hope Class includes a 12-month base period, four 12-month option periods and one six-month option. The ships covered by this contract award are the USNS Benavidez, USNS Bob Hope, USNS Brittin, USNS Fisher, USNS Mendonca, USNS Pililaau and USNS Seay.

The contract for the four converted LMSRs also includes a 12-month base period, four 12-month option periods and one six-month option. The ships covered by this contract award are the USNS Gilliland, USNS Gordon, USNS Shughart and USNS Yano.

As with the vast majority of MSC requests for proposals, many companies submitted bids in the highly competitive contracting process for each group of ships. The unsuccessful bidders each have an opportunity to be debriefed by MSC, and will then have five days to determine if they will file a protest of the contract award.
