Some TWIC access control systems may require use of PIN in certain cases

Access control systems for the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) are being developed that, in most cases, will not require TWIC card holders to enter their personal identification number (PIN) to authenticate the card. However, some privately owned/operated port and maritime facilities may require TWIC card holders to enter their PIN to authenticate the card in the access control system, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

Each TWIC holder sets the PIN for his or her TWIC during the enrollment process.

Use of the PIN to authenticate the card may also be required of TWIC card holders who were not able to provide fingerprints for the biometric data on the TWIC card when enrolling in the program.
