Slots available for AMO members in STCW Gap Closing courses scheduled for December

American Maritime Officers members and applicants are advised there are currently open slots in STCW 2010 Gap Closing courses scheduled for the month of December at STAR Center.

STCW Gap Closing courses with open slots in December include: Leadership and Management (start dates December 5 and 12), Engine Room Resource Management (start date December 12), and Management of Electrical and Electronic Control Equipment (start date December 5).

The STCW "Not Valid for Service after 12/31/2016" limitations take effect January 1 and must be removed from a mariner's Merchant Mariner Credential prior to sailing on the credential.

It is recommended that any AMO member or applicant who has not completed the required Gap Closing training register at STAR Center as soon as possible to secure a place in the upcoming classes, which have been filling quickly.

Additionally, the U.S. Coast Guard has reported significant delays in the processing of applications at the National Maritime Center and certain RECs. As a result, it is strongly recommended that mariners apply early for any transaction with the U.S. Coast Guard and avoid submitting applications to REC Miami and REC Charleston.
