USNS Pathfinder hosts U.S. Fleet Forces, MSC commanders

The USNS Pathfinder in October hosted visitors from U.S. Fleet Forces and Military Sealift Command for demonstrations of the ship's oceanographic surveying capabilities.

"It was incredibly rewarding to have flag officers onboard thanking us for our contribution to the Navy's mission, but even more humbling was the appreciation from the submariners who say that they could not fulfill their mission without the work that these ships do," said the USNS Pathfinder's master, AMO member Capt. Thomas Pearse-Drance.

The six T-AGS ships are operated in Military Sealift Command's Special Mission Ships Program by 3PSC LLC and are manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers.

Rear Adm. Mark Buzby, commander, Military Sealift Command, joined Adm. John Harvey Jr., commander, U.S. Fleet Forces, for a briefing on the ship and expressed appreciation for the work performed by the military and contract civilian crewmembers aboard the ship. The USNS Pathfinder also hosted Naval Station Norfolk Commanding Officer Capt. Mary Jackson; officers and representatives from U.S. Fleet Forces Command; Fleet Weather Center Norfolk; commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet; and commander, Carrier Strike Group 10.

"It is a pleasure to be here with you all, and I only regret that I was unable to visit one of these ships sooner," said Adm. Harvey.

Naval Oceanographic Office Commanding Officer Capt. Paul Oosterling, visiting the ship in operation for the first time, commended "the pride that every surveyor and crew member takes in the ship."
