MSC welcomes new executive director

The U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command Jan. 24 welcomed Executive Director John Thackrah, who will oversee MSC's business operations and act as a senior advisor to MSC's commanding admirals.

Thackrah, a member of the Senior Executive Service, most recently served as the principal deputy at the Navy's Strategic Systems Program, the nation's sea-based deterrent missile systems provider. His previous roles in the Navy include deputy assistant secretary for management and budget, assistant secretary for research, development and acquisition, and chief of staff to the assistant secretary of the Navy.

A farewell ceremony was held Jan. 21 for Richard Haynes, who had served as MSC's executive director since 1997. Haynes first joined MSC in 1985 as the command's senior legal counsel.
