M/V American Tern officers, crew commended for a job well done

Mark Remijan, superintendent of marine operations for APL Maritime Ltd., received the following letter in April from U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Richard Perraut, vice commander of the Thirteenth Air Force, regarding the M/V American Tern and its service in Deep Freeze 2008.

I greatly appreciated the efforts of Captain Brian O'Hanlon and Ice Pilot/Captain Eduardo Sica. They spent a day explaining in detail their loading/unloading operations, their challenges navigating through the icepack waters of the South Atlantic, and how proud they were to support the NSF efforts. They also gave us a guided tour of their ship and hosted a lunch aboard their ship. I could tell that they were very proud of their crew and their ship, MV American Tern! In addition, what they did to support us this year was a completely non-standard operation... and they made it look easy! Flawless execution and an expeditious unloading/loading operation was done safely and masterfully! Quite impressive!

Again, please pass my most sincere appreciation to the Captain and crew of the MV American Tern for a job well done!
